Maybe you’ve seen shows at the Athenaeum or Stage 773, or watched your favorite comics at The Laugh Factory, or noticed the American Blues signs lining Belmont Ave. You might follow us on Twitter or receive our newsletter, but has anyone really ever properly introduced you to the Belmont Theater District?
Allow us to do that for you. The Belmont Theater District (BTD) is a collaboration between Chicago’s Lakeview and Lakeview East Chambers of Commerce in partnership with local theaters and businesses that was started in 2014. The BTD works to promote and strengthen the diverse artistic offerings of the Lakeview and Lakeview East neighborhoods to its residents and visitors. Simply put, it’s the theaters that exist in the Lakeview and Lakeview East neighborhoods. Nice to meet you!
Now BTD isn’t just about live theater—though that’s a big part of it! The BTD also includes comedy clubs, performance venues, and even the historic Music Box movie theater. Not only that, but the BTD is home to hundreds of local shops and restaurants that perfectly compliment a day or night out at the theater or comedy show. And it’s very convenient that most of the BTD hot spots are within walking distance to the Belmont CTA station where you can catch the Red, Brown, or Purple line trains to other parts of the city.
The Belmont Theater District proves that high quality theater, entertainment, and food exist outside the Loop. From world-class theater to Chicago-style comedy and everything in between, there’s always a seat waiting for you at the 100+ shows playing every week in the Belmont Theater District—Chicago’s largest theater district. See you soon!
